NEIL DAVENPORT
FIRST APPEARANCE: July 1970
LAST APPEARANCE: March 1971
PERFORMER: Earle Hyman
EXIT: Murdered by Keith Whitney.
OCCUPATION: Political science professor/ campaign manager
Neil Davenport managed the senatorial campaign of Colin Whitney and was a close friend of the Whitney family. Following Colin's election to office in November 1970, Neil helped Adam Drake investigate a series of violent events, all seemingly related to the past of Colin's brother Keith, who had been reported killed in a fiery car crash. These events included the murder of Rosella Gray, Jim Fields' former girlfriend, the mugging of Martha Marceau, and a scorpion placed in Nancy Karr's bed while on the Caribbean island of St. Elenora. Neil also went to St. Elenora, where Keith had once been stationed while in the Navy. Neil met with local islander Matilda Lukes, who had been the best friend of Keith's secret wife, Suella Duval. During the visit, Matilda inadvertently provided Neil with a clue to the identity of person responsible for the crimes. It was Keith himself. His death in a car crash had been faked, and he had continued living in Monticello under the guise of hippie Jonah Lockwood. Before Neil could reveal the truth, Keith knocked him unconscious, put him behind the wheel of his car and pushed it car over a mountainous cliff.
