THE EDGE OF NIGHT
Airdate: Circa April 15, 1966
Summary Written By: Jay Tull
ACT ONE
Scene 1
At the Chicago airport. Establishing shot of a jet plane coming in for a landing. Airport PA announcer: "Inter-City Airlines flight 220 non-stop from Monticello now arriving at gate 3." Passengers start to de-plane. About the 4th or 5th passenger off is an ominously dressed man. He walks over to an equally mysterious looking man sitting at the gate smoking a cigarette. The man from the plane asks the smoking man in a heavy European accent what brand of cigarettes he is smoking. The man answers (also with a European accent) that it is a brand that he may not be familiar with. It is foreign. It is called Joachim. The man from the plane says that he is not unfamiliar with it and pulls out a box of cigarettes of the same brand. They realize who they are. They have made contact. Andre Lazar has arrived in Chicago to meet his contact Mauricie. Lazar asks if he has got the information from Gavril. Mauricie tells him yes and continues to tell him that a rather wealthy woman is staying in the surgical ward of Lakeside Hospital--Mrs. Martin Chandler. She is in room 411. Lazar asks about Tony Wyatt. Mauricie tells him that Wyatt is in room 412. Not to blow their cover, the men discuss how Lazar will gain entry to the hospital to kill Tony Wyatt.
Scene 2 Establishing shot of hospital exterior. Tony Wyatt's room at Lakeside Hospital. A nurse is attending to Wyatt. A police guard comes in to talk to the nurse and asks about Wyatt. Then, he starts to flirt with the nurse. The guard asks if she likes Wyatt. Then the guard says that the difference between Wyatt and himself is that he is alive and Wyatt is dead...or almost so. The nurse says no. Mr. Wyatt is alive and will live a very long life.
Harry Kramer: The Edge of Night is brought to you by Windex.

ACT TWO
Scene 1
In Phil Capice's hotel room, Phil can't sleep and paces the room. Mike Karr comes in. They are in Chicago trying to track down Tony Wyatt. Apparently, Phil is wanted for murder, and Wyatt has information that will clear him. Phil is upset that his private eye is more interested in trapping him and not in finding Wyatt.
Scene 2
At the hospital entrance, Lazar enters the hospital and identifies himself to a nurse at the desk as a doctor from abroad to see Mrs. Chandler. He says that his name is Dr. Joachim. The nurse lets him upstairs.
Scene 3
In Phil's hotel room, Phil and Mike talk about how tired they are. Mike sees the paper--a story about 3 guys shooting each other up in a motel. The article says that Tony Wyatt is one of them, and he is at Lakeside Hospital. They prepare to leave for Lakeside.
