EXIT: Confessed to his involvement in the murder of Taffy Sims and Morlock Sevingy's plots.
Attorney Paul Fairchild worked with Martha Marceau to arrange the adoption of baby Jennifer Sims. He mediated after Taffy attempted to extort more money from the Marceaus and snatched Jennifer back from the couple. However, Fairchild was secretly involved with Morlock Sevingy, a representative of the criminal syndicate in Monticello. Morlock's plan was to use the "gray market" adoption to blackmail police chief Bill. This quickly became apparent to the Marceaus when Fairchild forced Bill to free Harry Johnson for the assault of Adam Drake, and later Floyd Porter, suspected of being responsible for the bomb that blew up Adam and Nicole Drake's honeymoon yacht.
In October 1974, Fairchild arrived at the apartment of Taffy Sims only moments after she had been shot and killed by Martha. Fairchild offered to help her, though again, it was a ploy to keep her and Bill indebted to him. True to his word, he made a statement that he had witnessed a man fleeing Taffy's apartment and theorized that it was a robbery gone bad. The following month, when Morlock was taken in for questioning in the attempted murder of Adam, Fairchild tried to force Bill to release him, but was stunned when when Martha suddenly confessed to the crime, and Fairchild was arrested as an accessory.
With the adoption scam exposed, Fairchild was forced to admit it all on the witness stand at Martha's trial for killing Taffy, but Adam could not get him to confess the new speculation that Taffy had in fact still been alive following the shooting. Fearing a prison sentence, Fairchild began to have second thoughts about his role in Morlock's plot, though he quickly continued compliance after Morlock phoned thugs Otis and Vinny to help him solve a problem. He remained silent after Vic Lamont was accidentally shot in faked robbery at The New Moon engineered by Morlock to kill Johnny Dallas. In March, Morlock was shot in a struggle with Danny Micelli. Fearing death, he confessed to his sins, but his confession was considered inadmissible in Martha's trial because it was obtained under duress. Adam went to Fairchild's apartment and found him preparing to skip town. He forced him to go to the Karr home, where he ultimately corroborated Morlock's confession that Taffy's murder by Martha had been faked. The gun contained blanks, and after Martha fled, Morlock loaded the gun with live ammunition and killed Taffy.

A terrified Paul Fairchild begins to crack but relents when Morlock appears to call for his demise.
