THE SERIES

Dubbed "TV's most merciless soap opera" by Time magazine, The Edge of Night was an American, weekday afternoon serial broadcast from 1956 through 1984. Set in the mythical Midwestern city of Monticello, the series revolved around dedicated crime fighter Mike Karr, his family, his friends, his associates, and a seemingly endless stream of colorful villains. The series departed in many ways from the typical daytime soap opera. It was the first soap to debut in the half hour format and the first to fully utilize television as a visual medium by incorporating physical action, location shooting, and a brisker directorial style than the generally static soap operas of its era. Throughout its 28 year run, it developed a cult audience that most notably included an unusually high percentage of male viewers. With intriguing mysteries, engaging characters, stellar cast, and superior direction, The Edge of Night remains one of the most cherished programs in television history. It continues to draw interest from old and new fans alike.

THE WEBSITE

The Edge of Night Homepage went online May 15, 1998. The website was created to preserve the history of a classic series for which fewer than one-fourth of its episodes remain intact. Rather than focus on a particular era, super-couple, or popular actors, the site is intended to provide a general overview of the series and a factual account of storylines, characters, and details of production. The information provided has been accumulated from the original scripts, episodes, articles, and personal communication with the show's cast and crew.

To use the site, click on the navigation links above the EON Homepage banner. Each of those links leads to its own page. If you hover your mouse over the links, each also contains a drop-menu for additional sub-pages. There is also a search feature located below the home page banner. You can use this feature to search for actors, characters, stories, or anything else via key words.
