Gerald Kincaid introduced himself to Johnny Dallas as a representative of the company owning The New Moon and many other establishments across the country. However, he was actually a high level member of organized crime who had been sent to restore order to Monticello's criminal underworld following the exposure of Morlock and Paul Fairchild. Kincaid quickly made threats against Johnny and Laurie, but offered Johnny an out: help the mob identify the Crime Commission's secret witness who was preparing to give them names. Under Kincaid's direction, Johnny bugged Mike Karr's study, though he later removed the device. When Ernie Capser, the mob stoolie, was murdered before a planned meeting with Mike, Johnny thought he was responsible for Casper's death. Although Kincaid had actually been informed by another source, he let Johnny believe that he was guilty.
Kincaid furthered his vendetta against the Dallas family following a chance meeting with Serena Faraday at The New Moon. In her alternate personality of Josie, Serena flirted with Kincaid then boasted of an affair with Johnny. In exchange for a place to stay, Josie agreed to Kincaid's plan that she dig a deeper hole for Johnny by causing problems in his marriage following Laurie's miscarriage. By August, a new mob stoolie had emerged. Unknown to Kincaid, the informant was Walter LePage, the top man in Monticello's syndicate. Kincaid attempted to force Johnny into betraying Mike again, but Johnny realized that Josie and Kincaid were working in tandem against him. When Kincaid pulled a gun on him, Johnny managed to get the weapon away from him, strike him with it repeatedly, and believing Kincaid dead, fled the scene.
With Johnny on the run, Kincaid believed him to be Mike's new informant and hired hit man Ewell Jorgensen to silence him. When that failed, Kincaid set-up another trap, but that one was thwarted too when Walter LePage learned what was planned and tipped off Mike. The police were dispatched to the secret meeting site and arrested Kincaid, but he managed to get freed on a technicality. He followed Johnny back to The New Moon with two goons in tow. They beat Johnny into unconsciousness, set fire to the restaurant, and left him to burn alive. Meanwhile, Kincaid went to see LePage, whom he now realized was Mike's informant, and coldly shot him. Returning to the apartment he shared with Josie, Kincaid found her there without her dark wig and was puzzled by her odd behavior. It was actually Serena, under the psychiatric care of Dr. Quentin Henderson, who had gone there as part of her therapy. Serena manged to place a call to Adam, who sent the police. Kincaid was arrested, and with Johnny's offer to testify, was arrested for arson, attempted murders, and the death of Walter LePage.
